Call for Papers for a Focus Theme "Synthetic Data" of GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie
In medicine, research on medical errors, patient safety issues and evidence-based decision-making is well established and important. The digitalization of healthcare, the use of artificial intelligence in all areas of care, the increasing commercialization of healthcare services, the demand for patient and public involvement in health research, and climate protection and sustainability pose new and complex challenges. For all these areas, the targeted and critical selection of information sources, the analysis of the information and the associated considerations and conclusions for solving medical problems play an important role, especially for physicians. This has sparked interest in a better understanding of the development, promotion and testing of so-called critical thinking and reasoning in both the preclinical and clinical contexts (especially with regard to the mechanisms of patient-related decision-making). We see critical thinking and well-founded decision-making as an indispensable part of scientific competence.

Call for Papers for a Focus Theme "Synthetic Data" of GMS Medizinische Informatik, Biometrie und Epidemiologie
Synthetic data hold great promise in addressing critical challenges, such as safeguarding personal information and overcoming the scarcity of training data for machine learning. Meanwhile, advances in generative AI have significantly broadened the methodological toolkit for data synthesis. However, these opportunities come with notable challenges. Those relying on data synthesis for anonymization must remain vigilant to the substantial risks of re-identification. Additionally, using synthetic data for machine learning can result in skewed training outcomes or even the failure of the entire process. The implementation and training of data synthesis methods also raise important data protection concerns, potentially requiring secure federated data processing. Finally, the creation of high-quality synthetic data introduces the troubling possibility of fabricating scientific evidence, posing a serious threat to the integrity of scientific quality assurance. The generation, use and quality assurance of synthetic health data challenges all medical information and data sciences. The challenge is current and urgent. That is why we are calling for MIBE contributions with this focus.

Call for manuscripts for the special issue "How do students and trainees in the healthcare professions learn? - Basics, methods and perspectives for research on training, studies and didactics in the health professions" of GMS Journal for Medical Education
Dear colleagues,Our research on training, studies and didactics in the health professions aims to systematically and methodically understand and document how students learn to shape the design of teaching and learning environments. Above that, current and upcoming social trends and the organisational context of teaching and learning environments need to be understood and considered. The challenge lies in systematically identifying the research objective and consciously deciding on the best methodological approach. To stimulate our curiosity and creativity, which is at the heart of every research project, the GMA special interest group "Methodology in Educational Research" invites you to engage in reflection on practice in educational research and submit manuscripts on the following three topics:
