64th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Neurosurgery (DGNC)

German Society of Neurosurgery (DGNC)

26 - 29 May 2013, Düsseldorf

Dear colleagues and friends

A total of 742 scientific abstracts have been submitted for the 64th annual meeting of the DGNC. We acknowledge the substantial work of the program committee during the evaluation process. This allowed for composing a program of highest scientific quality. Special thanks must be extended to Prof. Daniel Hänggi and Prof. Jan Vesper who planned and arranged all sessions of the scientific program. Before being printed and published in the internet at German Medical Science ( all abstracts were edited by the publishing committee of the DGNC. We specially thank our honorary member Prof. Margareta Klinger for supporting this work with her great expertise.

For scientific judgment each abstract was individually and anonymously evaluated by five members of the program committee according to a standardized procedure using marks from 1 (excellent) to 5 (poor). Abstracts with average marks <3.0 and <3.2 were accepted for oral and for poster presentation. 45 abstracts with high variance and average marks around 3 were reevaluated during the meeting of the program committee. In the end 74 % of the submitted abstracts were accepted for their scientific excellence. 411 abstracts were admitted for oral and 139 for poster presentation. The table shows the distribution of the presentations with respect to the main topics of the meeting.

For the first time three English spoken sessions are fully integrated into this year's annual meeting of the DGNC. These sessions depict the second German-Chinese Neurosurgical Friendship Meeting. Oral lectures and poster presentations of the Chinese delegates were selected by the program committee of the Chinese Neurosurgical Society. Complemented by selected German contributions they compose a meeting of outstanding scientific value. This will guarantee for lively discussions and personal exchange between scientists and clinicians from Europe and Asia. The presentations of the friendship meeting cover neuro-oncology, skull base surgery, neurovascular surgery as well as spine surgery. They are also published in this abstract book.

The organizing committee of DGNC 2013 is happy to meet you in Düsseldorf. We wish you a pleasant stay and a meaningful scientific exchange with German and foreign scientists and clinicians.
