Dear medical research enthusiasts,

This year’s annual meeting of the GMA, which will be held in Hamburg, Germany, from September 25th to 27th, is rapidly approaching (see figure 1 [Fig. 1])!

The GMA 2014 will feature an excellent scientific programme and outstanding, internationally renowned keynote speakers, who will deal with cutting-edge topics of current medical education research: Jonathan Silverman of Cambridge University will analyze the connection between communication skills and high-quality healthcare, Geoff Norman of the Canadian McMaster University will put established doctrines and concepts to the test, Olaf von dem Knesebeck of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf will consider the importance of social factors in medical training, and Viktor Oubaid of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) will surprise you with astounding similarities between flight passengers and patients. Don’t miss these and many more topics and projects!

Exciting presentations mapping out the field of on-going research and dealing with the current topics of higher education research will be the foundations of short lectures, guided poster tours, and workshops. Many thanks to all authors for the new record-breaking number of almost 350 submitted abstracts! During the whole meeting, you will continuously have the chance for lively and intense discussions with your peers.

Last but not least, Hamburg will provide you with a very special travel experience, with numerous cultural highlights, special sites, and a history of more than 1,200 years. On the Social Evening, join us for a several hours’ pleasure cruise through Hamburg Harbour on a paddlewheel steamer with a typically Hanseatic buffet and enjoy the unique atmosphere amidst the old warehouse district, the “Elbphilharmonie”, and the dockyards.

Please visit our website at http://www.gma2014.de for more information and a glimpse at the preliminary programme. In addition, take advantage of the opportunity to already secure yourself a place in the attractive workshops. Registered participants will also receive a list of hotels in which we were able to pre-book a limited quota of rooms. We strongly recommend early reservations, since accommodations in Hamburg are already well utilized for the time of the meeting.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hamburg in September!

Wolfgang Hampe and Olaf Kuhnigk
