GMS Hygiene and Infection Control (GMS HIC) ist eine internationale Open-Access-Zeitschrift, die von der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Krankenhaushygiene (DGKH). herausgegeben und gemeinsam von der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Krankenhaushygiene, der Belgischen Gesellschaft für Innenraumluftqualität (IAQ), der Französischen Gesellschaft für Krankenhaushygiene, der Polnischen Gesellschaft für Klinische Mikrobiologie, der Polnischen Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Wundbehandlung und der Türkischen Gesellschaft für Desinfektion, Antisepsis und Sterilisation (DAS), unterstützt wird.
GMS HIC veröffentlicht Originalbeiträge, Übersichtsartikel, Fallberichte, Richtlinien und Empfehlungen der in die Herausgabe von GMS HIC eingebundenen Fachgesellschaften, Empfehlungen der Kommission für Krankenhaushygiene und Infektionsprävention (KRINKO) am Robert Koch-Institut Berlin, Konsensusempfehlungen von Extertengremien und Fallberichte aus dem Bereich der Krankenhaushygiene und Infektionsprävention. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Vorbeugung postoperativer Wundinfektionen und der antiseptischen Behandlung chronischer Wunden. Ein Hauptziel ist die Gewährleistung der Patientensicherheit und die Minimierung von Gesundheitsrisiken für Beschäftigte im Gesundheitswesen. Weitere Artikel zur Sicherstellung hygienischer Innenraumbedingungen (physikalische, chemische und klimatische Faktoren) sind willkommen, weil sie für den Genesungsprozess der Patienten und die Gesundheit des medizinischen Personals von Bedeutung sind.
Die Zeitschrift bietet Experten aus den Bereichen Krankenhaushygiene, Infektionskontrolle, Mikrobiologie, Infektiologie, Wundmanagement und Patientensicherheit die Möglichkeit, ihre Ergebnisse online zu veröffentlichen. Jede Einreichung wird einem Peer-Review unterzogen. Alle Artikel werden in englischer Sprache veröffentlicht.
Bis 2012 wurde die Zeitschrift unter dem Titel „GMS Krankenhaushygiene Interdisziplinär“ veröffentlicht.
