The use of the antimetabolites Mitomycin C (MMC) and 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is well established for complicated glaucomas in prospective randomized trials. The principal use in every glaucoma operation, however, is not generally accepted. The comparison between MMC and 5-FU shows equal efficacy in the preliminary data of a prospective study. New concepts of wound healing modulation are being investigated with an antibody against Transforming Growth Factor β-2 (TGFβ2) in a prospective randomized study. Further concepts of wound healing modulation are being tested in prospective studies.
