The reconstruction of the facial skin defects after surgical tumor removal is a commonly accepted principle. Healing by secondary intention on the face is discussed controversially. Here we describe our experience with wound healing by secondary intention considering anatomical subunits of the face. In our hands secondary wound healing is a safe, effective and cost-saving alternative to surgical reconstruction in selected facial areas.
