In the course of quality management, stringency of human resources and under the pressure of a benchmarking across hospitals the definition of standards for an ENT residency becomes more important. Therefore, we have designed a 2.5 years lasting educational program, which is based on six columns:

1. Preparation of the basic ENT knowledge in self-studies. 2. Weekly events for basic and advanced training following a specified ENT curriculum with once a month a resident seminar to discuss clinical cases (problem-oriented learning). 3. Additionally once a week a resident talk on current articles of the latest literature consistent with the theme at this time. 4. Control of the learning targets once a year by a written multiple choice test. 5. Definition of a surgical training calendar depending on the respective resident year. 6. In-house surgical and anatomical training courses with respect to the main ENT procedures, completed with at least one visit each year in a well-known national or international surgery instruction course at another hospital. Finally, the configuration of an ENT training curriculum should lead to a better, more transparent residency, a high quality standard and an improved employee satisfaction. Thus, every resident receives a basic training, which is the base for a planned certification by the European Med Council. Measures are the annual exams. After half of the residency a repetition will start, which opens up new perspectives bearing in mind the current contents of the program.
