42. Jahrestagung der Gesellschaft für Tropenpädiatrie und Internationale Kindergesundheit

Gesellschaft für Tropenpädiatrie und Internationale Kindergesundheit e. V.

12.04. - 14.04.2024, Eisenach

About this meeting

The 42nd GTP annual conference has the overarching theme “Children with disabilities and chronic illness in global health”. We selected this theme as children with these medical conditions are often overlooked and neglected in global health activities.

After the first session on Saturday which looks at the classification, epidemiology and causes of disabilities and chronic disease, we will hear in the second session about their impact, including aspects of child rights and child protection, referring to examples from Malawi, Sierra Leone, Germany and the Gambia.

In the third session we will hear oral presentations and discuss poster presentations prepared by early-stage researchers and project leaders on a wide range of topics in global child health, covering research on infectious diseases, neonatology, congenital heart disease, ETAT and emergency care, capacity building, comprehensive medical care, mental health issues, and migrant children in Africa, Asia, South America and Germany.

The final (fourth) session on Saturday presents different approaches to chronic disease and disability from Malawi and Tanzania, and focusses in the second part on good-practice examples when caring for migrant children with disabilities and other chronic conditions in Germany.

The fifth session on Sunday starts with presentations and discussions on the German role in global child health since the Second World War, featuring the rather new development of endowed professorial chairs in this speciality at two German universities. The closing (sixth) session is devoted to the presentation of new research findings in childhood malaria (Kenya), neonatal sepsis (Tanzania) and paediatric viral infections (global).
