Learning objective:

  • Understand the steps of a difficult conversation
  • Describe the requirements for preparing a scenario with a simulated person (colleague, superior, low performer,...) in a leadership training
  • Create an idea of an own training scenario

Schedule, content and didactics: The skill-based workshop will have a learner-centered approach to introduce an innovative method in leadership training. The already established training of communication with simulated patients will be extended. In three steps participants will:

1.
Have an interactive introduction about leading a challenging conversation
2.
Small groups will brainstorm what seems important for creating a scenario, results will be discussed in plenary
3.
Small groups, development of first ideas for a leadership training scenario at their working field, discussion and practice of one example in plenary

Participants will engage in active learning cycles in which they will reflect on learning objectives for leadership conversations, discuss the results for creating their own scenario and observe a simulated conversation.

  • Introduction, prebrief (10 minutes)
  • Interactive introduction, plenary work collecting learning objectives (15 minutes)
  • Group work creating needs for a scenario (15 minutes)
  • Collecting results in plenary (5 minutes)
  • Groups working on ideas for own scenario (15 minutes)
  • Collecting results in plenary (10 minutes)
  • Transformation of one example into a roleplay (10 minutes)
  • Summary and take aways (10 minutes)

Target audience: Educators with knowledge or experience in working with simulated persons (SP)
