Background: In 2015, the German Prevention and Health Promotion Strengthening Act has been adopted at the federal parliament. On the one hand, it provides the basis for strengthening prevention and health promotion in different settings. On the other, it facilitates cooperation between all stakeholders in prevention and health promotion countrywide.

Aim: In order to strengthen prevention and health promotion in settings, the Prevention and Health Promotion Strengthening Act defines the national prevention conference, the national prevention strategy and the counseling prevention forum.

Results/findings: The statutory insurances, involving health insurance, nursing care insurance, pension insurance and accident insurance are on charge of the implementation of the Act. However, stakeholders have different statutory assignments which should be considered when establishing countrywide structures, processes in prevention and health promotion.

Discussion and conclusions: The Statutory German Pension Insurance plays an important part in the national prevention conference and in the countrywide implementation of the national prevention strategy.
