Looking back, 2020 was a difficult year for all of us, and in many ways, turned out differently than originally planned. The corona pandemic has led to changes for everyone, both professionally and personally. The DKOU 2020, which we had fully planned, was not spared from such impacts. With the Digital Week O&U #digitalOU2020, however, we were able to offer an alternative event that was recognized and supported in our societies with approval and great contributions. Nevertheless, we would have preferred to have met you all at the “real” DKOU in Berlin.
The members of our professional societies have decided that we as a congress team will have the opportunity to organize the DKOU again in 2021. We would like to thank you for your trust.
In 2021, we will proceed with the congress motto #diversityunited, as we believe it is almost more applicable this year than last. Especially in times of crisis, we must continue to approach each other and collaborate despite our various specializations.
One major benefit of digitization is a greater international reach. We observed this in the Digital Week 2020. We are very happy about that, as it united us even more with our international colleagues. This is another reason why you will be able to live-stream the DKOU 2021 in 7 halls online.
October is approaching and we are very pleased that we can finally host this year’s congress “live” in person. This can be achieved under the conditions of 2G (vaccinated or recovered). According to the current regulations, major events in Berlin can again be held at 100% occupancy, and there is no need for a minimum distance and no mask requirement. For the DKOU 2021 this means that it will be held as a full-presence congress: meetings can be held on the congress grounds without a mask and without distancing, and all restrictions regarding visitor quantities are no longer applicable.
We look forward to this year’s event with excitement and cannot wait to see you again at the DKOU from 26.–29. October 2021 in Berlin.
