Outline

Text

The environmental and climate crisis is the greatest threat to our health, affecting people all over the world to varying degrees. Especially people in the global south, but also here in Europe, especially pregnant women and children, as well as the elderly, the socially disadvantaged and future generations are increasingly suffering from the effects of a dramatically worsening planetary crisis. The climate crisis is already leading to increased prenatal and perinatal mortality in this country. We need collective action to halt these trends to some extent.

The KLUG (German Alliance on Climate Change and Health) working group “Around Birth”, which consists of midwives, gynecologists and pediatricians, has developed a joint position paper on this topic.

We would like to present this position paper, to draw attention to the most important health effects of the climate crisis in connection with pregnancy and birth, to point out structural problems, to name concrete approaches to solutions and to call for active and immediate action in the health care system.

Ethics and conflicts of interest: A vote on ethics was not necessary. The research was financed by own resources. There are no conflicts of interest.
