Outline

Text

Objective: To study factors associated with quality of life in patients who will undergo a hip resurfacing.

Methods: In a prospective study data were collected of 100 patients on scheduled times pre- and postoperative concerning demographics (age, gender, BMI), health status (EQ-5D), quality of life (WHOQOL-Bref) and quality of the hip (VAS, Oxford Hip Score).

Results and conclusions: The Oxford Hip Score and Physical Health show an inverse relationship; a high OHS (more disability) at baseline was associated with a low score in Physical Health one year post operative.

UCLA Pain was also a predictor of Physical Health after one year. Concerning health status (EQ5D): general health improved in one year (p<.0001). Not all domains of the QoL improved: social domain was steady. Physical Health, Overall QoL and General health en Psychological Health improved significantly (p<.0001).

Resurfacing of the hip improves hip scores, but certainly also positively influences the QoL (overall QoL and general health, physical health, psychological health).
