Objective: The prognosis of glioblastoma patients remains still poor and the patient will die in a short time period. So the questions arise, whether there is a need of psycho-oncological intervention and whether related perspectives of the patients and their relatives are convergent or divergent. Because there is no specific instrument to analyse the need of psycho-oncological treatment in patients with malignant brain tumors, we adapted a well-known questionnaire to investigate this expert-defined need also from the perspective of the relatives.
Methods: Following the concept of the “Hornheider Fragebogen” (Strittmatter, 1997) we developed a comparable questionnaire for patients with malignant brain tumors to determine how patients are affected by their illness. Between October 2004 and July 2005, 49 glioblastoma patients (age: 21-80 years) after operation, radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy as well as 49 relatives filled out the patient-form respective the relative-form of our questionnaire.
