The Rhinophyma belongs to the rare, progredient disfiguring diseases of the outer part of the nose. It is indicated by hyperplasy of the sebaceous glands and the surrounding tissue.

The Rhinophyma is named the third stadium of Rosacea. It can also develop without any note of Rosacea.

Treatment of Rosacea contains in mild forms a local therapy with Metronidazol, as well as antiinflammatory and antibiotic ointments. Severe forms require an systemic therapy with antibiotics and Isoretinoin.

The therapy of the Rhinophyma contains the resection of the hypertrophic parts of the nose with scalpel, ultrasound, electrical- or laser-surgery.

In the first line Rhinophyma is a disease of the men older then 50 years. Women which suffering from Rhinophyma are a rarity. The data are between 1:20 to 1:30.

We describe the case of a 45-years old female suffering from Rhinophyma with nasal obstruction. A possible cause of the development of this diseaese may be a disbalance between the female and male sexual hormons after a gynicological operation.

We treated 9 patients, 8 male and 1 female suffering from Rhinophyma between 01/1999 and 12/2006 at the ENT-hospital Halberstadt.

The therapy contained a conventionally surgery of the concerned parts and a smoothing of the nose.

Belonging to the surgery, we can find good cosmetic results many years after treatment.
