Background: Clinical experience in psychooncological screening by means of the PO-Bado shows both high acceptance and substantial demand for specific tools for special settings. The development of two specific versions will be described: a) a disease specific version for breast cancer patients and b) a shortform of PO-Bado which can be easily integrated into the medical history interview.
Methods: a) The preliminary version of the breast cancer specific tool consists of all items of the standard PO-Bado and 7 breast cancer related items selected from the most frequent stress statements in semi-structured interviews with breast cancer patients. 80 breast cancer patients were assessed with the preliminary version. Additionally they filled in 3 psychometric evaluated questionnaires (HADS, QSC-R23 and EORTC-QLQ-C30).
b) The most important items from PO-Bado (criterion: mean score; data: primary validation sample n = 700) were selected for the preliminary short form. This 9-item –scale was applied to 150 patients of different treatment settings. For validation two psychometrically evaluated questionnaires were administered concurrently (HADS-D Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale; QSC-R23 Questionnaire on Stress in Cancer Patients). To test interrater reliability 20 audio-taped interviews were rated by 3 independent raters.
Results: Results concerning construct validity, interrater reliability and sensitivity to change of the two new PO-Bado-instruments will be presented.
