This study investigates the intrapsychic processes that occur during individual music therapy sessions using the body monochord. The aim of this work is to explore interventions with the body monochord as a resource for experiencing intrapsychic processes, in addition to its demonstrated relaxing effects.

Previous studies have identified effects of body monochord therapy including: decreased heart rate, relaxation, conceived images, and emerging memories. This study builds on these prior studies by examining the intrapsychic processes involved. A qualitative study was conducted with a self-developed intervention, which was analyzed using the guided interview method as described by Hussy et al. (2013) and evaluated through content-structuring analysis following Kuckartz (2016).

The results indicate that one participant experienced intrapsychic processes during the intervention. The other two participants did not report any emotional processes. This study demonstrates that body monochord therapy can create a space for experiencing intrapsychic processes, although such experiences following a single intervention are rare.
