Geographic atrophy, the advanced form of dry AMD, is primarily caused by death of the retinal pigment epithelial cells of the macula. To regenerate these cells with new ones derived from embryonic stem cells is an attractive possibility. A preclinical platform aimed at clinical trails using this concept will be presented.
