The CI-operative care in adults using the EAS technique surgery successful both in regard to preservation of the rest hearing, the attitude of listeners as well as the considerable better speech understanding in noise. Many children and adolescents with high grade hearing loss could cope with the curriculum at the elementary school well. But with increasing nose situation and increasing demands on language comprehension, the hearing aid is not enough and not sufficient for the high grade hearing loss.

Materials and methods: Since 2007, we implanted 17 children with the so-called hybrid electrode and 18 children with SRA extended thin electrode (CI422). It will measure the results of audiometric before and after surgery and speech understanding in noise. Particularly was differentiated, the extent to which acoustic components useful in understanding speech.

Result: It was shown that, as with the adults with two electrodes Listener position was reached the same extent, that’s means can we preservation the rest hearing. Furthermore, we found that with the extended thin electrode in the sole electrical stimulation (ie, no acoustic component) with a standard product.

Comparable language understanding is possible.

Conclusion: Basically, it was shown that the pathophysiology of inner ear disorders in childhood hearing loss similar to that seen in adults. The postoperative grip seems the listeners not to contradict. Moreover, it can be shown that the low-frequency acoustic component is essential for a good speech understanding in noise.

The evolution of the electrodes to a thin and long electrode allows expanded the indication for the implantation of young people who move the hearing aid and no longer benefit from the hearing aid in the low-frequency hearing for a speech understanding, but on the Sound of the acoustic listening are still dependent.
