Dr. Fridsma will provide the background and give an introduction to ONC’s eHealth strategy for the US His overview will cover the current state of health IT adoption in the US, the Meaningful Use incentive program, and the ongoing strategy for nationwide interoperability, and problems found during the nationwide implementation process. He will focus on reuse options for data from the system for health research and address the question of international use of terminologies like SNOMED CT in this context. Time will be left for discussion of the similarities and differences between the US and EU approaches.
