Background: Since 2014, the regional associations of SHI-accredited physicans and the regional pharmacy association in Saxony and Thuringia as well as the AOK PLUS have started a pilot project for the improvement of supply of medicines (Arzneimittelinitiative Sachsen-Thüringen – ARMIN). The pilot project aims to establish a mutal care concept of physicians and pharmacist. Mainly, the project is based on 3 elements:

  • A structure way of generic drug prescription („Wirkstoffverordnung“)
  • Implementation of a structured treatment recommendation tool for supply of medicines („Medikationskatalog“)
  • Implementation of a medication therapy management.

Materials and Methods: A sample of 22 general practioners as participants in ARMIN were examined in order to get information about the current status of implementation of ARMIN in patient care.

Especially, the following areas of interest will be discussed:

  • Cooperation between physician and pharmacist in respect of a medication therapy management
  • Practicability of software specific IT-solutions
  • Assessment of patient benefits.

On the one hand, this study will be based on health care utilization data of the AOK PLUS and - on the other hand – it will be based on qualitative data gained in interviews with participants of the ARMIN-project.

Results: The results will be presented on the conference.

Conclusion: It will be expected that the cooperation between general practioners and pharmacist will contributes for an improving health care service. Nevertheless, it is necessary that the interprofessional cooperation between pharmacists and physicians is clearly structured and supported by practical software solutions.
