Purpose: To determine the accuracy and predictability of corneal lenticule creation with a new solid-state femtosecond laser.

Methods: Corneal lenticule creation was performed using a new solid-state femtosecond laser on 60 porcine eyes. OCT images were acquired immediately after laser treatment. Cap thickness (CT), cap diameter (CD), and lenticule thickness (LT) measured by 3 independent readers.

Results: Measured LT was significantly greater than the calculated (136.4µm±33.1 vs 122.1±33.6µm, P<0.001). Measured CD was significantly smaller compared to the calculated CD (7.79 mm±0.2 vs 8.5 mm, P<0.001; was the transformation accounted for). Measured CT showed no significant difference from the calculated CT (128.6µm±13.4 vs 126µm, P=0.145).

Conclusion: A new femtosecond laser is capable of creating accurate, predictable corneal lenticules over a range of refractive corrections in porcine eyes.
