Purpose: To evaluate the performance of Z-Calc as an intraocular lens power calculator.

Method: 17 eyes and 32 eyes were implanted with 709M toric IOL and 909M toric multifocals IOL. Both the sphere and cylindrical powers of the IOLs were calculated using the Z-Calc. The biometric data was obtained by either IOLMaster or ultrasound biometry.

Results: The average axial length of the 709M implanted eyes was 23.53 mm ± 0.77 mm. The anterior chamber depth was 23.53 ± 0.35. The average corneal power was 44.51 ± 1.23 and the corneal astigmatism 1.94 ± 0.83D. The average axial length of the 909M implanted eyes were 25.29±1.62 mm; the anterior chamber depth 3.20 ± 1.53 mm. The average corneal power was 44.14 ± 1.53 and the corneal cylinder 1.62 ± 0.6D. The average power implanted were 18.56 ± 1.78D and 13.57 ± 5.25D for 709M and 909M respectively. At one month postoperatively, the mean errors were 0.16D and 0.05D for the 709M and 909M respectively. The mean absolute errors were 0.31D and 0.26D respectively. These were comparable to the optimized outcomes of Haigis and SRK-T.

Conclusion: The Z-Calc has performed very well as an IOL power calculator.
