Text

Short-term housing for people with disabilities is curative pedagogical, qualified and independent. One of its goals is to stabilize and/or maintain the stability of family systems through temporary periods of residence [1]. Both Witting [2] and the literature research carried out it is clear that the field of research is hardly explored. As the first study, several facilities of short-term housing in four German states are included. All results refer exclusively to becura e. V. belonging institutions. The survey is preceded by the following research question: How is short-term housing experienced by main caregivers, especially parents, and what effects does the situation have on them, the family situation and people with disabilities? A written survey has been conducted from January to February 2022. Main caregivers express relief and improvement of health through the program. Families are very often able to engage in and pursue activities that otherwise are not possible. Among other things, through short-term housing people with exclusively high degrees of severe disability are able to experience a more pleasant time. Trust in other caregivers and/or other people can be built up. Overall, not only people with disabilities, but also the main caregivers and families are positively influenced. An expansion of the offer, which was recommended in the literature researched, can be confirmed by the results.
