Patients, physicians, scientists, and policy makers all agree on one thing: The transformation of remarkable biomedical research advances into superior therapies and preventative measures has proceeded at a snail’s pace. Why? In this AAAS Product Review, Senior Editor Dr. Kelly LaMarco will use content published in Science Translational Medicine to define gaps responsible for this malaise at a time of unprecedented opportunities for progress. She will also discuss innovative ways to “mind the gaps” in knowledge, regulation, innovation, education, and implementation, so that biomedical science can ultimately improve the quality of people’s lives.
