Providing information support to researchers is a challenge, full of paradoxes. It is a simple task, but a difficult one too – they want access to everything, immediately! Researchers do appreciate expert assistance with searching and information handling, but it can be hard to gain their trust. The spread of open access has brought a new need for support from librarians. Better management of research data may also become a new role for librarians. One suggested solution to providing deeper information support to researchers is the "Informationist".
