Objective: To study if the Wistar rat model of cerebral concussion may be developed as the model of labyrinthine concussion.

Methods: Forty healthy male Wistar rats were divided into group A(the control group), B(30 minutes after impact) , C(1 hour after impact) and D(1 day after impact). The DPOAE audiogram (f2/f1=1.2, L1=65dBSPL, L2=55dBSPL) at 0.5,0.7,1,1.4,2,3,4,6 and 8kHz were analyzed in the three circumstances. The values of ABR were simultaneously measured. The changes of cochlear hair cells were observed under the scanning electron microscope.

Results: The increased values of ABR were observed in group B,C and D (P<0.05). The DPOAE significant decreased at 2 kHz after rats were rammed in group C and group D (P<0.05). cochlea outer hair cells on the intermediate and basefond circumvolutio were showed disordered in group B and lightly lodging in the group D by scanning electron microscope.

Conclusion: The animal model of cerebral concussion can be used as the model of labyrinthine concussion in Wistar rats.
