The endoscopy has succeeded to revolutionize the diagnosis and the surgical techniques on the posterior sinuses, dangerous areas, difficult to approach from an anatomical point of view. The modern imagistic examinations have increased the safety of the surgical act and so the postinterventional results are better.
The team of doctors from our clinic present their experience on 5 years (517 cases) in the endoscopical treatment of the posterior sinuses’ inflammatory diseases, mostly localized in the posterior and anterior ethmoid; the sphenoid was affected more rarely, in 115 cases. The pituitary gland adenoma tumours have been approached in 11 cases, each of them having a very good evolution.
Chronical inflammatory diseases, due to the endoscopic control were more oftenly solved without endangering the functions of the related areas, with no infectious complications and so the long term postsurgical evolution has been, in most of the cases, very good. The tumours localised at these sites, especially those of the pituitary gland were able to be approached endoscopically (in function of their size) and the results of this type of surgery are very good, too.
The anatomical and surgical experience of the surgeon assures the increased rate of the therapeutical success, decreases the complications and allows performing targeted procedures on the affected sinus.
