Choanal atresia is a congenital anomaly, which requires the appropriate treatment.

We had a 7-year old girl with a left sided atresia. The diagnosis was based on the endoscopic examination and computed tomography.

Aim of the surgery is to remove the atretic part and reassure that it stays open. The endoscopic transnasal approach for the treatment of choanal atresia, includes the preparation of a mucoperichondrial flap from the nasal septum, the accurate drilling of the bony part, the placement of the flap on the whole surface after drilling and its support with a small silicone tube with merocell, which was situated just on the drilled area. The tube is supposed to stay on place for 45 days. Follow up was performed 8 months after surgery.

Endoscopic treatment of choanal atresia is a safe and fast procedure with no complications or relapses.
