Objective: The quest for minimally invasive methods and materials with good bioavailability is becoming an important role in supply in the central facial area. Stability, access roads and materials plays an important role in preoperative planning. Resorbable Osteosynthesis make a positive innovation. The optimization and refinement of materials and expanding the application opportunities are currently in the forefront of development.

Material and methods: For reconstruction of midfacial fractures were resorbable materials (SonicWeld Rx®) used. The material consists of poly D-and L-Lactid (PDLLA), which is 100% amorphous. Biodegradation is carried out by hydrolysis. It is the supply of non-resilient structures in the central facial area.

Results: The operating procedure is the same to the supply of titanium plates. Following surgery to eliminate the plates it's not even necessary. This is a crucial advantage for the patient. The time spent in hospital is equal to the supply of titanium plates. The functional and cosmetic results are good and equivalent.

Summary: The safe and simple application and success in the treatment of midfacial fractures with resorbable materials (SonicWeld Rx®) is easy to use in load dependent fractures, e.g. anterior wall frontal sinus fractures with reproducible results. Initial positive results show the possibility of exposure, even when under stress fracture following use of this material. It is still too early to name the material used (PDLLA) as an ideal implant.

The results from different users show up to now at least equivalence with different advantages. Further studies must now demonstrate the reproducibility.
