Text

Visual communication is shaping the world. Examples abound in politics, psychology and healthcare, among many other fields. Nowadays, the impact of visuals grows even further with large amounts of available data and the rapid spread of information. This makes one skill ever more important: the crafting of effective and truthful graphs.

In this talk, we will carve out the principles of effective visual communication, using examples from recent events and important observational data, e.g. the Covid19 outbreak. We touch upon reproducible research in this context, and we highlight the role of the visualization panel in the STRATOS initiative. The talk is part of a wider multipronged initiative which we will briefly mention, covering teaching efforts, software development, community building and more.
