Objectives:
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of the existing voluntary CPD concept versus mandatory CPD for all nurses in Switzerland?
- What are possible barriers to change the existing voluntary system of CPD in favour of a mandatory system?
Methods: To answer the research questions, we chose a mixed methods approach (see figure 1 [Fig. 1]) with a sequential exploratory design.
Results: The results are shown in table 1 displaying perspectives of the semi-structured interviews (n=5 experts). The table presents first results concerning the nurses’ view on incentives, barriers and challenges/innovations of CPD.
Discussion: See table 1 [Tab. 1]
Take home messages: The statements of the interviewees were consistent among themselves with regard to possible incentives, obstacles and challenges/innovation regarding the existing CPD system in Switzerland. Challenges and innovations were stated with the intention to develop an even more attractive system in the future.
