Abschlussvortrag
The World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) has realised the need for standards in medical education as the number of medical schools that are newly founded is increasing each year. Standards in medical education are often seen exclusively as a developing world problem, however, medical education in the developed countries also need to be looked at in terms of coming to grips with basic professional requirements which are often found in deficiency or neglect. Defining the basic professional requirements to engage in patient care and describing the condition that are specific to the medical profession to serve the needs of the respective society is an indispensable task for the European countries especially in respect to the ongoing unification process. The needs and main developments of European medical education and recent developments in this realm will be discussed and discernable goals described with respect to the global perspectives.
