Introduction: DELBI instruments developed for quality evaluation of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG), has 34 items in eight domains. It has been applied for adaptation CPG, but there are no studies that validate it. Quality evaluation impacts the decision on adaptation or development guidelines. To explore the internal consistency and validity of the DELBI applied to CPG in oncology

Objective: evaluate consistency and validity of DELBI instrument for the evaluation of CPG.

Methods: Internal consistency of this instrument was evaluated with a Cronbach alpha coefficient. Validity was evaluated with a main component factor analysis. A multidimensional scaling was used to evaluate the relationships among items and to determine if they correspond with the domain structure of this tool. 135 GPC were evaluated. Good internal consistency among all the items in the scale was found, better than that found for the individual domains. Factor analysis revealed a 4- factor structure. Multidimensional scaling allowed the observation of item groupings according to the structure of domains proposed in the instrument, in two dimensions. There are items that are poorly related with the other ones or that do not contribute to the domain to which they are assigned to.

Resuts: DELBI tool includes several elements to perform an objective and comprehensive evaluation of the quality of GPC, not all of its items contribute to its measurement. The interpretation of the evaluations should be oriented by those domains that have better consistency, which are also the best indicators of the quality of the guidelines.
