Background: DECIDE (Developing and Evaluating Communication Strategies to Support Informed Decisions and Practice Based on Evidence) is an international project funded by the European Union with the aim of improving dissemination of evidence-based recommendations based on the GRADE approach. One research area is the development of an optimal format of a table that facilitates the decision-making process for guideline groups when moving from evidence to recommendations(EtR).

Objectives: To present alternative formats of EtR table and obtain feedback regarding usefulness, understanding, and acceptability.

Target group: Members of guideline panels or anyone with experience in guideline development and interest in this area.

Description of the workshop: Using a clinical scenario we will explain the process and features of the table. We will state the clinical question, enumerate and rank the outcomes and present the results of a systematic review in a GRADE evidence profile. Working in small groups we will ask participants to fill out the table given the systematic review (full text), the evidence profile and the instructions provided to fill out the table.

The table includes: benefit and harms balance, quality of evidence, values and preferences, and resource implications. We will discuss the challenges and advantages of the table. We will then ask participants to complete a survey regarding the usefulness, understanding and acceptability of this format. Next, we will present them with alternative presentations of the table and discuss in a plenary their impressions in relation to the previous one.

The facilitators of the workshops will be taking notes of the main issues that come up in the discussion.
