Background: Guideline working group (WG) members, although mostly health care professionals, have varying backgrounds and skills relevant to evidence based medicine (EBM). Thus, guideline producers should take responsibility for training in EBM skills such as critical appraisal of the literature or interpreting the evidence using GRADE to the guideline WG members in order to ensure high quality guidelines.

Objectives/Goal: The objective of this interactive workshop is to share experiences and find new ways to teach EBM skills to WG members.

Target group, suggested audience: Everybody interested in teaching EBM skills particularly in the guideline work: tutors, organisers, guideline writers and developers, quality improvement managers or facilitators, as well as medical educators, allied health professionals and information specialists.

Description of the workshop and of the methods used to facilitate interactions: The workshop will start by a panel from three institutions producing guidelines. A representative from each organisation will describe in ten minutes how they have organised their teaching. After each introduction ten minutes will be allowed for discussion. Following these, the participants will be asked in groups of 4-6 people to build up an agenda for a short (half day) or long (2 days) EBM-seminar. The workshop will end in a summary of the ideas gained.
