Gliederung

Text

Background: The German Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ADKA) established the project „KAMPI“ (Krankenhaus-Apotheker sorgen für Medizinisch-Pharmazeutische Information; Hospital pharmacists provide medical and pharmaceutical information) with a part-time pharmacist in April 2014 to enhance and improve existing drug information services in German hospital pharmacies. Further objectives are to support the use of the ADKA Drug Information Tool (A-DIT), to continuously expand the shared knowledge pool in the A-DIT and to provide small-sized hospital pharmacies with assistance in setting up a drug information service.

KAMPI replies to individual enquiries of ADKA-members, creates summary tables on key topics, provides guidance on evidence-based drug information and addresses current issues that are relevant to many hospital pharmacists. The use of the ADKA practice guidelines on Drug Information in the Hospital Pharmacy [1] ensures quality-assured answering of the enquiries (including a systematic evidence-based literature research; evaluation, analysis and synthesis of the data; patient-individualized conclusion and response; documentation and transfer of information via the A-DIT). Completed enquiries and summary tables are provided to all users of the A-DIT. The use of this service is free of charge for all ADKA-members.

Materials and Methods: From May 2014 to September 2015 all enquiries to KAMPI were evaluated (category of enquiry, origin of enquiry, size of hospital pharmacy, processing time) and a feedback-form was sent to each enquirer. Additionally, the download section was reviewed.

Results: From May 2014 to September 2015 KAMPI completed ninety complex enquiries and developed eight summary tables. Most enquiries were originally made by physicians to their respective hospital pharmacy which then forwarded the question to KAMPI. The most common topic concerned the selection of drugs. Questions about stability or administration also occurred frequently. It was mainly medium-sized hospital pharmacies (with four to ten pharmacists) who made enquiries to KAMPI. The average processing time was about eight hours per enquiry and about sixteen hours per summary table. The average rating from users was “very good”, especially regarding professional quality, comprehensibility and amount of information. An indirect effect is evident in the increase of requests for the use and new licenses of the A-DIT.

Conclusion: The project is well accepted and receives positive user feedback. The evaluation shows that mainly complex enquiries requiring intensive literature research are sent to KAMPI. For these enquiries and the sophisticated preparation of summary tables there is usually too little time in the routine of hospital pharmacies. These activities can be bundled efficiently by KAMPI. By responding to current issues and publishing the answered enquiries, all users of A-DIT benefit from the project. Furthermore, the enquirers were coached on answering drug information enquiries on their own and received practical support concerning search strategies and the use of A-DIT. The status and the quality of drug information in hospital pharmacies can be improved and supported efficiently by the activities of KAMPI.
