Background/research question: Dissemination of evidence in public health is of high importance to ensure that scientific knowledge can reach potential stakeholders. We aimed to describe the dissemination strategies used by Dissemination Group of Cochrane Public Health Europe (CPHE [1], a satellite group of Cochrane Public Health (CPH, Australia). CPHE was established in 2015 as a virtual network of academic institutions in 3 German-speaking European countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). CPHE coordination is based in Germany for the period of 2022–2023 (at the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology- BIPS and the University of Bremen).
Methods: We provide a narrative description of dissemination strategies used by CPHE Dissemination Group.
Results: CPH updates the CPHE Dissemination Group about newly published CPH reviews. CPHE Dissemination Group meets virtually once a month to discuss if the new CPH reviews are relevant for German-speaking European stakeholders and to choose a dissemination strategy. Dissemination is realized using 2 strategies. First, CPHE Dissemination Group assists with translating of plain language summaries (PLS) of CPH reviews into German. Second, CPHE Dissemination Group produces short newsletters (so-called Infomails) summarizing the content of selected CPH reviews with high relevance for German-speaking European stakeholders. Infomails are sent out to registered stakeholders via email approximately every two months. Infomails are organised around 8 themes [2] and anyone can register online to receive the Infomails on any of these themes [3].
Conclusion: CPHE Dissemination Group contributes to dissemination of evidence from CPH reviews in the German language. Each CPH review has a PLS in German that is available open-access online. The evidence reported in some CPH reviews reaches the interested stakeholders via email in German. Stakeholders contacted in 2021 rated the Infomails as helpful for their work in public health. We continue to explore new strategies to inform stakeholders about CPHE and to encourage them to register for Infomails. Further evaluation is needed to find out (1) if and how stakeholders use the PLS and Infomails, (2) if they prefer to receive information about CPH reviews in German, and (3) what other channels could support dissemination of CPH reviews in the German language.
