Defocus curve analysis with new enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses RayOne EMV and RayOne EMV toric

Purpose: This study aims to assess the functional outcomes, including visual performance and patient-reported outcomes, subsequent to the implantation of enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), RayOne EMV and RayOne EMV toric RAO210T (Rayner, UK).
Methods: This ongoing prospective study involves 13 eyes of 9 patients who underwent phacoemulsification with RayOne EMV implantation, and 16 eyes of 8 patients who received RayOne EMV toric RAO210T implantation. The patients, with an average age of 72 ± 9 years, underwent evaluations at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-surgery. Main outcome measures include subjective refraction, corrected and uncorrected visual acuity (monocular and binocular [logMAR] for distance, intermediate, and near vision), and binocular best-corrected defocus curve analysis within the range of +2 to -4 diopters.
Results: At 1 month postoperative, the monocular distance-corrected defocus curve exhibited continuous visual acuity of 0.15 logMAR or better within the range of +1.0 to -0.5 diopters of defocus. At 3 and 6 months, the binocular distance-corrected defocus curve demonstrated continuous visual acuity of 0.10 logMAR or better within the range of +1.0 to -1.0 diopters. Further detailed evaluations and defocus curve assessments are ongoing.
Conclusions: Initial findings suggest promising visual acuity outcomes and an expanded range of focus of approximately 1.5D when targeting emmetropia in both eyes with RayOne EMV (T) lenses. IOL power calculation for RayOne EMV (T) and implantation procedures are uncomplicated. Continued evaluation of visual acuity and defocus curve outcomes at 12 months postoperatively is ongoing.
