Purpose: Estimation of the results of FemtoLASIK operation with MEL-80 excimer laser using VisuMax laser microkeratome in the eyes with keratometry below 38D (“flat” cornea).

Methods: Six eyes of 5 patients were studied. During FemtoLASIK corneal flap with planned thickness of 100 microns with a 12 o’clock hinge was formed with VisuMax laser microkeratome (Carl Zeiss, Meditec). Corneal ablation was performed with MEL-80 excimer laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec), optic zone diameter was 6 mm. Follow-up was from 3 to 6 months.

Results: Mean uncorrected visual acuity before surgery was 0.34 ± 0.21. After surgery it has significantly increased up to 0.81 ± 0.2. Mean corrected visual acuity before surgery was 0.91 ± 0.15. After surgery it has not significantly changed and made 0.89 ± 0.13. Mean spherical equivalent before surgery was + 2.33 ± 1.47D. After surgery it has significantly decreased up to - 0.25 ± 0.25.

Conclusion: FemtoLASIK is an effective and safe technology for correction of refractive errors in the eyes after radial keratotomy with keratometry below 38D (“flat” cornea).
