Purpose: Besides the traditional monovision corneal ablation technique there are several new methods of corneal laser surgery on the market to correct presbyopia, which already proved their effectiveness in near vision restoration. The purpose of the treatment is to create a multifocal cornea with increased depth of focus and a change of aberrations.

Methods: The different methods with their characteristics, outcomes and side effects will be explained and discussed.

Results: Excimer laser ablation is used in methods like SUPRACOR, PresbyMAX or Blended Vision. A purely intrastromal and minmal invasive femtosecond laser treatment would be INTRACOR.

These techniques provide a significant improvement of near vision. All methods differ slightly in their treatment ranges and outcomes and have limitations and advantages.

Conclusion: There is a great progress in developing and improving new treatment options in the field of corneal laser surgery for presbyopia correction. However, careful patient selection as well as informed consent about pros and cons is very crucial.
