The aim of study was estimation of the anaesthetics influence on the morphology of somatosensory potentials (SEPs) recorded oververtebrally at the cervical level when correction of scoliosis with CD and CD Hopf methods were performed.

Material and methods

Amplitudes and latencies of the averaged SEPs recorded during the correction of scoliosis in 16 subjects with CD and in 11 subjects treated with CD-Hopf were analyzed. Subjects were inhalatory anaesthetized with O2 and N2O mixture with the intravenal administration of Scoline, Pavulon, Fenthanyl and barbiturates in different combinations.

Results

In SEPs recorded before CD instrumentation was applied, mean of latencies was 19.7ms and in CD Hopf 19.0 ms. During the distraction, SEPs latencies were prolonged up to 20.6ms and 19.5ms respectively. These changes were accompanied by decreasing amplitudes at 30 percent in CD group and at 10 percent in CD Hopf group of patients. Mean values of SEPs latencies recorded after the surgery was completed in both groups of patients were 19.6ms in case of CD method and 18.6ms in case of CD-Hopf method. In all cases amplitudes of potentials reached the values almost the same or higher (especially with CD Hopf surgery) comparing to those which were recorded in first stages of surgeries when different combinations of anaesthetics were applied.

Conclusions

1. This comparison shows less extend of changes in parameters of amplitudes and latencies of SEPs recorded intraoperatively in cases of CDHopf than CD instrumentations. 2. Parameters of SEPs recorded oververtebrally at cervical level are not worse when different anaesthetics are applied during the general anaesthesia.
