Patients with cataract who desire spectacle independence have the option to get presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens (IOL) implants. These show good refractive outcome but sometimes come at the cost of visual phenomena. Current data suggest that the levels of discomfort and intensity regarding the halos, glare and starbursts are highest shortly after the operation, but decline over time. Waiting for neuroadaptation is the preferred option for patients that are bothered by optical phenomena. An IOL exchange (different kind of multifocal or monofocal) is possible if the patient remains unsatisfied.
