Presbyopic lens Exchange (PRELEX) is one of the methods in treating presbyopia by the removing patients’ own clear crystalline lens and replace with multifocal intraocular lens (IOL). PRELEX can eliminate refractive errors all together with presbyopia and the need for cataract surgery in the future. However, there are concerns as to whether the post-operative near and intermediate vision is good enough for patients’ daily life. The halo & glare induced by multifocal IOLs may also reduce patients’ satisfaction on PRELEX. There are 2 different diffractive & pupil independent multifocal IOLs on the market: AMO Tecnis ZMB00 (ZMB00) & Carl Zeiss Meditec AT LISA (AT LISA) multifocal IOLs. Although they are both diffractive, their optical designs are different. The ZMB00 has light distribution of 50% to distance focus and 50% to near focus, while the AT LISA diffract 65% and 35% of incident light to distance and near focus respectively. Besides, difference in their power range makes the AT LISA the only choice for PRELEX in extreme high myopes. In this presentation, we are going to discuss the post-operative visual outcomes, severity of symptoms and patients’ satisfaction of both multifocal IOLs.
