Research in Medical Education – Chances and Challenges International Conference

20.05. - 22.05.2009, Heidelberg

Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

Medicine as an integral part of the natural sciences has generated an enormous amount of knowledge that continues to grow exponentially. The internationalization of medical programs necessitates multilateral, multicultural and even global exchange and cooperation between medical instructors in order to support and further advocate this development. The success and improvement of medical training programs means promoting young scientists and clinicians, thus fostering a pool of talented, motivated and accomplished students and investing in the future. We need an academic culture that stimulates research and career development in medical education.

The Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University has invested in medical education in a unique way by developing the internationally acknowledged HeiCuMed and HeiCuDent Programs. Ten years after the initiation of HeiCuMed seems an ideal point in time for an assessment of the status quo in medical education with the goal of acknowledging the current successes of the new curricula as well as opening up areas for improvement. Top priority should be devoted to the promotion of education research. As a renowned institution where historical tradition and advancement in science have enjoyed a close partnership, Heidelberg offers ideal conditions for this international meeting.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to Heidelberg.
