Introduction: Up to date, the effect of topical anesthesia of nasal cavity and pharynx before videostroboscopy on vocal cord movement and voice profile. The present study aims to explore the relationship between topical anesthesia and voice profile using retrospective analysis of clinical data.

Method: A total of 30 normal laryngeal speakers and 30 patients with voice disorders were considered for this study. Voice acoustic analysis (VAA) and voice handicap index-12 (VHI-12) were performed before and after topical anesthesia. VAA included videostrobokymography (VSK), pitch perturbation (jitter ) , amplitude perturbation (shimmer ) and maximum phonatory time (MPT).

Results: The average scores of VHI-12 in normal voice group were 12.32±2.66 and 13.16±1.76 before and after topical anesthesia respectively (P>0.05). And there were no significant differences in VSK, jitter, shimmer and MPT before and after topical anesthesia. Further, The average scores o f VHI with voice disorders were 33.92±4.63 and 34.32±3.86 before and after topical anesthesia respectively (P>0.05). Finally, it showed no differences in in VSK, jitter, shimmer and MPT before and after topical anesthesia.

Conclusion: topical anesthesia did not impact on voice profile of both normal laryngeal speakers and patients with voice disorders.
