Background: The Spanish National Health Service (NHS) Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) Programme has been working adapting its web contents to mobile devices, specifically CPG questions, recommendations and algorithms.

Objectives: To develop a mobile application (APP) to disseminate CPG belonging to the Spanish NHS CPG Programme.

Methods: Search and selection of mobile applications developed by other organisations. Determination of the APP requirements (features and contents). Development and testing of the app functions with some first proof texts in iPhone OS and OS Android mobiles. Uploading all relevant contents (CPG questions, recommendations and algorithms into the application).

Results: This APP, available in Android Market and Apple Store, provides access to the recommendations of 19 CPG, as well as to search and to download their different pdf versions. The APP allows also access to other different website sections of Spanish NHS CPG Programme such as News and recent events, information about the application and the institution, and allows visiting the institution’s profile in some social networks.

Discussion: This mobile application facilitates access to CPG through a friendly and easy to use interface. The impact on the dissemination of the CPG belonging to the Spanish NHS CPG Programme will be audited during the next months.

Implications for guideline developers/users: This mobile app provides a new dissemination channel for CPG, which intends to answer users’ needs and integrate new behavioural trends.
