Question: Pre-surgically acquire 3D facial scan of patient, simulate appropriate nose fitting the patients’ facial contour, then precisely measure and predict data needed for external cover, framework, and internal lining reconstruction during surgery. Follow up after the surgery and analyze changes in data measured, and provide useful information for future nasal reconstruction reference.
Methods: By acquiring the 3D facial image of normal patients and nasal defected patients, we were able to simulate the nasal area for the nasal defected patients, and measure its length, height, width, and area and provide useful information for the surgery (Figure 1 [Fig. 1], Figure 2 [Fig. 2]).
Results: 3D scanning and simulating technique proved to be helpful in providing useful data for nasal reconstruction surgery. Post operation patient satisfactory survey showed that patients were pleased with the results.
Conclusions: This technique results in improved patient outcomes by increased approximation of the patients’ original fine details and contours. The introduction of this new technology into the preoperative and operative arena plays a great role in improving surgical ease and patient satisfaction.
