The utility of intraoperative OCT has been demonstrated in clinical studies using perioperative imaging during ophthalmic surgical procedures.
The intraoperative evaluation lets both the anterior and posterior segment surgeon improve the final surgical results facilitating surgery itself and supporting the surgeon’s decision-making process. It provides immediate, precise and real-time information about structural changes during surgery, such as tissue movements in a safeway without loss of sterility and not additional surgical risks.
There are two different modalities: fully integrated surgical microscope OCT or external OCT for use intraoperatively separated from microscope.
Both systems will be analyzed and described with pros and cons.
