Purpose: Analyzing the aphakic condition after trauma and its possible refractive correction by implantation of PCicIOL.

Method: This is an audio-visual poster in which the author presents 7 cases with different aphakic conditions after trauma. The cases are analyzed from different points of view: anatomopathological, intraocular pressure (IOP) risk for appearance of postoperative complications. The video section of the poster presents certain surgical steps of the final decision of implantation of a PCicIOL associated with other combined vitreoretinal or anterior segment surgical techniques, according to each case. The postoperative results were also analyzed for the 7 cases.

Results: All 7 cases improved their preoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) that ranged between light perception to 0,02. The postoperative BCVA ranges between 0,1-0,8. The anisometropia decreased postoperatively, allowing the refractive correction with glasses, in all 7 cases. In 2 cases, an unexplained intraocular hemorrhage complicated the postoperative evolution, requiring silicon oil endotamponade in 1 case with previous operated retinal detachment. In 5 cases the macroscopic anatomopathological conditions of the anterior segment has been improved. In all 7 cases the postoperative IOP remained stable, under 20 mmHg.

Conclusions: The PCicIOL are good and safe methods that may be used to correct the refractive status of aphakic eyes in different situations after trauma.
